Original Art Deco Prints

La Vie Parisienne (Parisian Life) was a magazine initially published during late Victorian times and became increasingly popular during WWI and subsequently during the roaring twenties. The weekly magazine was directed at French high society and accented towards the arts and men readers. During the war years the magazine contained a strong patriotic theme and appealed to soldiers fighting on all sides, partly due to its “comic like” style and to its mildly risqué visual content which featured scantily clad women in humorous poses. Today we might recognize this as a forerunner to the “pin-up” magazine or “retro erotica” except that instead of photographs there were tastefully drawn images truly reflecting the Golden Age of French Art – La Belle Epoch.

Many artists worked on commission for the publication – some earning a tidy living while earning their reputation elsewhere on canvas. A good example of this is Rene Vincent – famous for his Art Deco automobile advertisements of the day. Although the publication spanned both the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods it is the Art Deco images that perhaps the publication is most famous for and collectors and art lovers most search for.
